One of the things I always liked about Revit (and has recently been introduced to Rhino) is that you can hotkey a particular snap for the next snapping action. This snap override (as it is called) allows you to make sure the next click you perform is indeed a perpendicular snap or a midpoint snap. You won't have to disable any of the active snaps in the toolbar, but instead you fire up the snap override, use this snap and then continue working with the snaps you set in the snap toolbar again.
This would be very helpful in the Draft and BIM workbenches, so you don't have to enable/ disable lots of snaps over and over when you only need it for a single click. In that sense, it may also be useful to have a toolbar item in the snaps menu to disable all snaps (which is different from turning all snaps off in the sense that it de-activates all individual snapping options to save some clicks).
