Amazing logos everyone! Favorites are martnnw (no bolts), gavinlynas (#1), and obelisk79 (white border). Cheers.

Hi everyone! My thoughts about the App icon:
- the current FC icon is bothering me, mostly for lacking balance and crafted feel.
- let's make a new one, that solves the above, but doesn't break the continuity with the old one.
- keep the red letter F, keep the gear, make it recognizable.
- I don't care about the logotype and visual identity too much, I would only like to improve the application icon at this point.

Something similar to this proposal:

It's still lacking some contrast, if you see it next to other app icons, but the direction works for me in general.
What do you think?

The basic concept was presented above. With this message, I attach the final result, in the required vector format. In this logo, the letter F has a resemblance to the hand that holds the part, the part in this case is the letter C (CAD). I also wanted to show that this is a kind of puzzle, which in turn symbolizes the addition of a workbench for assembly. I am waiting for feedback that the work is allowed to participate in the competition. Thank you all, it was interesting to get involved in this event! :D

Here's my take on it

I Went with the more professional route :)

1- Theres the F and the C if you can se it ;)
2- Theres the gear that shows it's a cad software
3- A part of the gear is breaking free (thats what freecad is doing to us since it let us create without the financial constraint)
4- Nice updated font :)

Thank you for your time !

Ps. Here are other colors !

I just found out about FreeCAD two days ago and and am really excited about it, so I wanted to take a stab at redesigning the logo even though I missed the design contest thread by a few weeks.

I liked the idea of not straying too far away from the original logo elements and had seen a few versions where the F is a caliper which I thought was cool. But I wanted to try a version where the caliper is less detailed so it still kind of retains the look of a font.

This was my first time using inkscape and I couldn't figure out how to do anything fancy like gradients or shadows so everything's flat, which I kind of like anyhow.

Anyway, I thought it turned out alright. I'd wear it if it was on a shirt :)
