Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
In my use of cad software, scaling and rotating are necessary in one main usecase : SVG/dxf import.
Say you want to get a logo, company logo, CE FCC markings and so on. When you import it the géométries are not constrained and will not be at the correct position.
I'm working on offset these days and it's quite complex actually. Much harder than scale/rotate.
Currently constraint names are lost because they are copies from originals. I haven't tested what would happen with formulas.

Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
Regarding these use cases it may be sufficient to allow scaling only if no dimensions are involved at all.

Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
So if I have a model (fully parametric) designed at 1:32 and want to do quick evaluation of what it would be like at 1:45 i.e. 71% of original (don't need to be parametric) , I guess the best procedure would be to export as .step and then scale?
Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
I would make a scaled clone.

Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
Are you talking about part design clone?
don't see scale option anywhere?
plus if it was single body I can make a link and that is definitely scalable, so no need for clone?
My issue is that I want to scale a whole assembly (assembly3) as one...?
Hopefully not drifting too much OT?
later edit
solved
I can make a link of a whole assembly (which is already externally linked to assembly component files) to a separate FreeCAD file and scale option in the link makes it a matter of seconds
What's more everything remains parametric
I am happy bunny
Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
For the sake of completeness: I talked about the Draft clone.

Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
Thank you!
interestingly... I took my solution to a logical next step and created a link of a sketch and used scale property for the link.
Guess what - seems to kind of work
So the geometry is scaled, but the dimensions are not - could be confusing
Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
I think this is ok, because the sketch remains as is, and the additional scale operation does the work.

Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
I found this thread as I was looking for this feature and for exactly this reason. It doesn't appear to have been merged as of 0.21.1 Any updates or is it accessible in a beta?
And as ever, thanks for everyone's amazing work.
Re: Sketcher : Scale geometries
It's not available yet but should be added quite soon. Some info here: https://ondsel.com/blog/floating-input-widgets
