Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
Any modelers want to take a stab at this beast?

Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
I guess it is when fully assembled. There is a "cardanic bushing" missing in that exploded view that is visible in the other videos.
Cheers,

hum, yes, you're probably right. I still doubt that you can convey much torque/force on such limited guiding
Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
I'd agree. That massive outer joints visually promise a rigidity the inner components likely can't keep.

Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
So, I've managed to model my take on the transmission, and I'm pretty sure the geometry itself is correct, but I've been unable to create a dynamic assembly with constraints in A2+ to generate an animation. I'll share screenshots and my FCStd file to the firing squad here shortly.
Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
Constructive criticism on my modeling is welcome. Anyone who wants to make it work in A2Plus, please share. This was my first serious attempt at using it and I kept running into problems.

Well the first try, avoiding fillet failed. The second attempt applying fillets failed. Applying all fillets at once did go half way thru. However there are some bugs... but i need different fillet's! Yellow is the original, grey is the remade solid... (kind of). And "refine" went big time tits up !
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
Okay, now we are rolling in the right direction. For all who recognize the connecting boss, the part in the middle, did not match the requirement. I had a idea what the shape looked like and i had a idea what feature would do the trick. The radius on all the edges didn't make the reconstruction easier but the solution was stupidly simple! After all i have put the shape binder to good use. Basically it is mostly the shape binder feature and a few sketches. I did not manage to apply the fillet, the upper fillet is 2mm the lower fillet is 0,8mm these two are possible but buggy i guess. The connecting boss has some fillets around 5,6mm if i remember correctly. Could do those manually but there is no point doing that... The feature should just work.
I've cleaned the file and mixed up the order of the file tree in the process, but this shouldn't be a problem. I cut the "bounded shape" in half and linked external geometry into the sketches, easy. I did like the shape binder the first time i used it, it's NOICE .
Here is the file for download. The rest of the assembly shouldn't be a problem for FreeCAD...
If you like, you can visit my GrabCAD. I have some models there, you can take a look in the 3D viewer at them.

Re: Modeling Challenge - Trasmission between 3 shafts
Here is the progress i made recreating the models...
You see a screenshot of my Windows7 thumbnails in the image below. Even lower a part of the housing. This model does not allow to apply fillets it will be provided for download. Butt only the lite version without the shape binder model, where sketches were processed with the "Sketch validation" tool and "Delete constraints to external geometry" was executed. Otherwise the part would exceed the size of 10MB.
Just look how nice the gradient looks in the thumbnails . Yes the logo is from another program, it was jealous how nice the thumbnails looked so it hijacked them... Windows!
