[Feature suggestion] F9 command to Recompute Object

Post by FredCailloux »

In Combo View, one can use the RightMouse button on an object and see the command Recompute Object.
I think that it would be beneficial if this command Recompute Object be attached to the F9 keyboard key such that when F9 is depressed the Recompute takes place.
Obviously the F9 triggering would target the object currently selected or the object of focus, such as when editing a spreadsheet. Instead of resorting to a RightMouse click every time one makes a change in a spreadsheet, a simple F9 would do the trick. While F9 is already utilized in a spreadsheet for Toggle Breakpoint in the Macro menu, the feature could still be implemented by making it contextual, if no macro is running F9 become Recompute.
This feature exist in MS EXCEL and I find it very convenient.
IMO it would be a great feature to FreeCAD.

Great results only comes with great understanding. Great memory is just an illusion.

Yes, Std_Refresh is kind of the idea. However it will Recompute the whole project.
Where if one calls Recompute from the RightMouse button you strictly refresh the object in focus, a convenient way of refreshing a spreadsheet without the hassle of waiting sometime many minutes while all the rest uselessly gets refreshed.
Great results only comes with great understanding. Great memory is just an illusion.

This seems like a rather dangerous change to avoid a right-click followed by a left click. :?

Who knows what macros or other functions might be lurking in the shadows. There are probably some OS considerations as well.

Not saying automatically it is a bad idea, but it is likely a bit more complicated than you imply.

I would say keep it by F5 and add a extra button for only recompute object (ctrl+ F5 / shift + F5)...

There is also a right click on the tree document and "skip recomputes".
