Feature #5780 - X-ray draw style
Hello,
Actually its a question to the developers: an x-ray draw style /similar to eg. Sketchup/ would be VERY nice and helpful.
OpenGL shaded model + wired edges - slight hidden, maybe eg dotted lines...?
issue #5780

I don't know Sketchup; is the x-ray style something like the wireframe draw style in FreeCAD?
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

Select your object(s) and in the View Tab change the transparency?

Re: X-ray draw style
Thats fine but thats on an object level.
I meant it as a view style, once for all. On/off.

Re: X-ray draw style
PTC Creo has such a view mode called "verdeckte kanten" translated edges behind.
That means that edges in front are black and edges behind are different for example grey or dotted.

Re: X-ray draw style
the question is: does open inventor support such a method to detect overlapped areas. In this case we ca calculate such an image.freecad-heini-1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 7:14 am PTC Creo has such a view mode called "verdeckte kanten" translated edges behind.

My idea is to run over all points of the images and detect, whether there are more than one elements behind the ray. Then we can change the color of the pixel.
Re: X-ray draw style
Whatever idea is I would say its REALLY usefull while working on more complicated solids.
Moreover: SKP provides snap to the points on 'invisible' surfaces in such mode.

Hi,
Totally second this ! It would be a great UI addition.
It's true you can select all objects and set their transparency to 70% and obtain a similar result, but doing so, you break all your transparent objects view settings.
Deserves a feature request
