I already did quite a while ago and use it for e.g. https://staging.freecad.io, https://analytics.freecad.io as well as future experiments.

For what its worth I just submitted a request to purchase the freecad.org domain if it does not get renewed.
I'm using snapnames.com service, If they let it expire we'll have the domain for the price of registration.
