install of the stable release gives a 0.16 on a Ubuntu distrib

Post by david69 »

I am blindly using what I read here
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Installing_ ... PA_version

that is

Code: Select all

sudo apt install freecad
on my Lubuntu 18.04.06, and the stable release I've got is 0.16. I suppose the errors come from the repository on Ubuntu.

and on the same page, adding the ppa stable gives the 0.19.2 FreeCAD and I don't want to use Appimages or Snaps or Flatpaks.

Sorry the ppa is currently unmaintained, if you don't want appimage/flatpak/snap you'll have to either compile yourself or move to another distro were it's easier to get up to date freecad. Well, you could use conda too but that's essentially the same as using the appimage so I don't think you'll want that either. I recommend trying out the appimage, do you have a particular reason not to? (beyond package format fanaticism)
@Kunda1 should we add a warning on that wiki page that the ppa is unmaintained and therefore discouraged?

I just installed from the "Daily" PPA and it installed and runs fine. (Yes the "Stable" is very broken.)
Installed on kubuntu 22.04

There was a problem with adding a job in the path workbench. It was resolved, see this post:

I was going to tell you that 22.04 has trouble with pivy and link to another thread, now I see it was you on that thread too! So this statement is IMO misleading because it doesn't just work fine out of the box, you had to hunt for dependencies manually.

adding a temporary warning on the wiki seems fair. @kunda your view?
