Confirmed:

sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/FreeCAD.app

allows FreeCAD 0.18 to run on MacOS 10.15.7.

I have just tried this on Catalina rev 10.15.7, but it would not work for me.

I am on 10.15.7 Catalina as well and the "workaround" just now worked for me.

Workaround = in terminal paste "sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/FreeCAD.app" assuming that's where you put the app.

I would think that signing the app would also be a good thing as this might scare a lot of mac users away. It's a system dialog box with no obvious buttons are mentions on how to get the software launched.

Signing the app is on the list, unfortunately the list is long.

Solution - could not use the terminal command.
Instead, Sys preferences > Security and Privacy > unlock > Allow apps : allow option was available to override App store installations only.

We should get a macOS developer account (should be free for FLOSS projects) now that we have the FPA launched.
