error message is "ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'paraview'"
It seems you need to install the python3-paraview package on Ubuntu to get the scripting features of paraview. I have added a check in the dependency checker to report this.
no ParaView executable path given in CfdOF-preferences (where can this be found in Ubuntu?)
It should be there right under "OpenFOAM install directory". No idea why it would be missing!

Thanks for adding this check!

The line in the FC-GUI is visible, but I do not find the paraview install directory, which could be /opt/paraview or something.

It looks like sorting out my installation is needed, which has to wait for the weekend.

Solved!
python3-paraview and also a new installation of openfoam9.
Maybe this was connected to an installation of insightCAE running openfoam1806.

Thanks again.
Now time to learn a lot about the how-tos...
