I found this blog https://opencascade.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... scade.html by Roman Lygin useful background on the conceptual basis of OCC. I compiled it into a single pdf for reference.
I'm not at all familiar with the C++, but the connection to the exposed Python in FreeCAD is pretty clear.
