It is recommended to use the simplest tool possible. So you should rather use a pocket instead of the loft. It may work here, but in other cases things may fail, e.g. because loft can create plain B-spline faces instead of real planes.

according to my understanding, extrude should also avoid the problem

Extrude is most probably what is used internally if you create a pocket. The quality of the result will thus be as good as with the PartDesign feature, only the way requires more steps.
