A classic problem is to have too many Draft_Snaps active. Especially the Draft_Snap_Near should not be permanently active.

Is this "snap to the middle of the face" (is there an official name for it?) always active, or is there a dedicated snap tool for it that I have to enable?

It is Draft_Snap_Center you need to use.

Thanks for your patience. The Wiki says "3. Move the cursor over a circle or arc object.", that is I why I thought it does not work on faces! :(

I constructed a cube from a rectangle that I "extruded" with Trimex. I can center on exactly ONE face, but not the others!? Oh well... :?

The following screenshot shows the face one the cube that works (I can see the snap-center-icon next to the mouse pointer, the screenshot looses it):

That's a bug! It was introduced in V0.19.

Is it OK if I try to update the Wiki doc, including faces to the objects that the command can be applied to?

off-topic:
I think this link earlier lead to an actual tutorial, now it just says that there is nothing there.
I guess the sandbox is purged now.

Anyways, https://wiki.freecadweb.org/User:Piffpoof is a pretty nice page as well.

I have not really explored the user profile pages of the wiki earlier, and by the looks of it,
it seems like this is a part of the wiki which one simply cannot "stumble over".
you would actually have to know the user name and that there really is something useful there.

just wondering if it would be an idea to have an index on the wiki with links to informative and nice user pages.
or maybe it is just this one....

The comments you made in January confirmed my own assessment that the page was obsolete and I therefore deleted the page.
