[TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Actually when I create a Section View from a View the cut line with the cut designation is displayed in it.
But when I use the created Section View to create another Section View I get no further cut line anywhere.
So I visually have no idea where the second Section View belongs.
IMHO it would be very helpfull to at least show the cut line also in the Base View (red symbols in the following picture) and ideally also in all other related Views and Section Views (orange symbols). What do you think?

Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Section of a section never occurred to me. Tunnel vision, I guess.
Showing the section line on a base view that happens to be a section seems straight forward. Showing the line on the original view is harder.

Thank you for your quick reply and for creating the issue!wandererfan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 2:43 pm Showing the section line on a base view that happens to be a section seems straight forward. Showing the line on the original view is harder.
I think showing the line on the base view that happens to be a section would already be a great step forward.
Cheers!
Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
If implemented it should be optional. I can see this becoming very confusing on anything complicated that has many different sections. Also, at least per ASME standards, section cuts should be projections from the view they are cut from. This won't be able to do that. Sections from sections, or views from sections, or any other combination are common on complex parts.
Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Slightly off topic, but why doesn't the section view not
default to a projection view and move when the source
view is moved? Or have I just got a preferences miss set?

Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Must be time for my nap, I'm not following. What do you mean by a projection view? All views are projections of 3D objects into 2D. What is moving? The view on the page?
Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Sorry if I have caused a confusion, I meant a orthographic 1st or 3rd angle projection from another view.
Thus when the parent view moves so does the cross-section, as with normal views

Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
So if the parent is part of a ProjectionGroup, then the SectionView should become part of the group and move with it?
This would have to be optional behaviour, because somebody is sure to want to be able to position the Section independently.
Re: [TD] Improvement suggestion for Section Views
Yes, as noted by sjhorsch ASME and other standards, e.g. ISO/BS888 expect thatSo if the parent is part of a ProjectionGroup, then the SectionView should become part of the group and move with it?
section views follow normal projection rules for location/alignment. In many
cases you may find the section or half section as the main central view of a drawing
There are special cases, e.g. multiple sections through a shaft where the setions
are aligned but normally as projected from a master view.
I would have thought that projected sections should be default and
non-aligned sections optional. - I think this is what would be found
in most MCAD packages, but it may be worth taking a straw poll
