ISO 1101: 2017 Geometric Tolerancing Standard

Post by Mark Szlazak »

ISO 1101: 2017 is the latest version of the tolerancing standard that most CAD systems have implemented in the past which enable engineers to create 2D drawings and 3D models that incorporate geometric tolerancing of form, orientation, location and run-out. Arguably the most important tolerance standard used by engineers.

Request for these standards came up earlier this week on our forums for further development of TechDraw.

I was just going to make a post about this as well.

Please reference the older thread to keep track of the information. This is that thread: FreeCAD 0.18.1 instalation.

It mentions some perceived advantages that the Drawing Workbench and Drawing Dimensioning Addon still have over the TechDraw Workbench.

There is work on this. Within the next days, you should be able to get at least the most basic GD&T things to be done, just watch this Wiki page: TechDraw_Geometric_dimensioning_and_tolerancing

What is the licensing on that ISO standard? I presume it’s in the open domain if no one picked this up by now?

ISO standards are not public domain. The OP probably should not have published it, but I am not a lawyer.

That’s what I thought. Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, that is is a norm and not open, is really weird. Even when the FPA buys a norm, they are are not allowed to share it with the developers. Only the ISO 1101:2017 norm alone cost around 200$/€ (and will be replaced next year).
