Part vs body Icon

Post by MisterMaker »

I think the part icon looks way to much like the body icon.
Anyone agrees?
Anyone ideas on how to make it more clear?

have never had any issue in separating the 2...
the coloring is enough for me, and they are never in the same toolbar, so not much to get confused by there imho, but suppose this is for treeview (and then the coloring works fine)...

anyhow, a hole in the body?

It is a container, the icon should look like a container.

It's (the simplest possible form of) an assembly and that's what the icon looks like. Good enough for me.

The hole is too small to be seen on 24px. So that wouldn't work.
I totally agree on the fact that it is a container, but I don't think any Casual CAD user would understand it.
Got this idea from Discord chat;
For existing bodies and parts (mostly in tree)

For new creation
part vs body 2 create new.png

Again ended up to make it look mostly like Solidworks....

If you want really a container I'd go for something like this:

But then we get a gazillion question and angry people here to ask where is the part function and why is the icon so weird.

Still I don't think I will use it in my theme since my goal is too make it more like Solidworks.

I also have no (or had) an issue with the difference between Part or Body. But i like this icon (with the default color scheme it would be better), because a Part container is more then simple representation of an object.
