Here is my idea.
Font: Roboto
Feel free to improve upon it!
svg included
color contrast is off ... Any red and blue shades that have at least AA level contrast?

Re: FreeCAD Logo Gallery - Please read the first post!
I have dabbled in designing a FreeCAD logo a few times. Recently I was reminded of an old attempt and I liked the concept of it so I decided to iterate and refine. After some positive feedback on Discord, I've decided to add my humble design effort here for consideration if an updated logo is ever an option.
I am not a designer, nor a student. Just a nerd with OpenSource software. I created the design in FreeCAD (file attached). I used techdraw to export an outline of the shapes. This was my first foray into vector graphics and learned Inkscape "The Hard Way" today (file attached). I imported into inkscape, recreated clean paths, added strokes (light and dark) as well as a moderate shadowing effect for mild contrast (clean light/dark svg's 128px attached).
I also mocked up a simple splash screen as well as a palette against different colored backgrounds to demonstrate how it looks.

I also like the obelisk version it just similar enough that you probably get away with it by replacing current logo an just keeping everything the same. Since it used the same position and colors.
I also wonder how it looks when the F is straight?
Edit screwed around with it, I am going to add it too my icon theme. Lets see how it looks!
Since my I make my icons in Blender I have added the blend file.

Hi, this is my proposal. Just the same current logo but with a bit more 3D and shadows on it.

Hmm, I took the suggestion from @MisterMaker (or any other logo that is heavily based on the original for recognition), but removed a tooth from the gear on the right.
That makes the gear into the letter "C" for CAD, and it is a play on the OpenHardware logo, which in turn is a play on the OpenSoftware logo, where the missing piece together with the centre hole generates somewhat of a negative lock shape. An OpenSoftware Style C would also be possible, but I would miss the gear.
Of course, the OpenHardware logo is trademarked, so we would probably ask for permission (but IANAL).
