Problems with GD&T

Post by vandal7 »

i will wait for 100.20 so meybe i will not have to learn 4 hours about making something what takes me 30 seconds on inventor in my work.
This freecad is extreamly poor in functionality.
Even making a feature reference frame is so stupid like here:
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/TechDraw_Balloon

and its not working! look its copied text from wiki:

guys if you not make it easy going software then this project will whut down in future - im shure of this, its just a metter of time when someone wil release good working free alternative ...

Nice try. Despite raging around a spell-checker would be your friend.

Good luck with free alternatives. Not paying any money but expecting the same like for a programs that costs you > 1000 $/year

Concerning your problem, it is all there:

Money "free", can be, but i do not think so and if, then time limited. Vendor lock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendor_lock-in) free (real free), no.

might take a while though, so far a free alternative in the same space has existed, hm... never?
seriously doubt that there is anyone out there that is going to make a new 3d kernel and let it go for free.
would argue that there are already plenty of those that has tried, not even free versions, but paid ones - and crashed trying...
na, my 2 cents are that it is going to stay as is - no new kernels (existing will slowly evolve) and some mid-commercials will offer limited licenses for 100-500 usd annually.

noone is claiming that fc is perfect, there is only two things that are for sure
a) every month fc gets better... (or at minimum easier to maintain...)
b) there is always something to learn (for everyone) of how to get things done in fc

if you are happier using a different sw - well you are happier using a different sw - and you should do what makes you happy

fc will continue to tug along in its own pace, sometimes deadly slow, and sometimes a bit faster :-)

Hi vandal7, greetings to the Community!
I think that the distinguished colleagues have already replicated sufficiently, you should be a little less presumptuous is more open to learning (erasing from your mind the practice you routinely do with the sw you used).
Obviously you are not available to make a "quality" leap in 3D modeling, if you prefer to submit for an FC clone then best wishes.
Here an animated gif that explains how to use GD&T in 5 seconds (not in 30 as your sw does) https://forum.freecad.org/viewtopic.php ... 18#p590187

FWIW, Feature Control Frames are on the TechDraw_Roadmap. No ETA.
