Differences opening STEP file in Windows vs linux
Hello, just learning FreeCAD. I'm using ver 0.20 on both windows and linux.
I have downloaded a STEP file of multiple assembled parts that I want to work on.
If I open the STEP file in FC under windows, I get a structure of all the different parts.
If I open the STEP file in FC under linux, I get a single part that I am unable to disassemble.
Why is the behavior different for the different operating systems? Or am I missing something?

I guess you should "sync" you're settings concerning step import settings
Deselect
Code: Select all
Enable STEP Compound merge

I'm shocked to see stuff like this on this forum.

Guns ? For some reason, people learning CAD often start by modeling guns. Even big ones like M134 Minigun. I wonder if there are any detailed models like that made entirely in FreeCAD.

I doubt many of those people are European.

I tried going into import preferences, but STEP wasn't an option, which I assumed meant that v0.20 didn't have any STEP import options. If I had looked it up on the wiki I would have learned this: Thanks!jeno wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 7:21 am

I'm tempted to put +1,
But guns are simply engineered things. sometimes very interesting.
As far you don't employ a gun for carrying them on the street and killing innocent people, (and this is not very common in Europe yet, and I'm hoping it will remain this way for very long time).
Even most pacific country like Switzerland and Austria produce and sell guns, France is producing many harmful things, (and Italy too, even a little nation like Belgium have famous gun producers, some of them are even US Army suppliers)
Having plans for a gun it is not as "being able to produce them", even if the amount of technology involved is not very high, first guns were made of bamboo and natural ingredients, in China they produce similar guns long time before Europe has started to think of similar things, but main use of the "gunpowder" was to make fireworks, more pacific and beautiful things.
