Sketches can be used for a number of purposes in FreeCAD. Duplication of lines is not automatically a problem in the sketcher.

Or another way to look at the problem: There is an infinite number of ways the sketch can be wrong for a particular purpose. The Validate Sketch operation does a good job of finding the most common ones. It cannot check for an infinite number, many of which are not really illegal.
