Timing Belt drive.

Post by Coljay »

hello.
I am new to CAD and trying to teach myself the art of CAD.
Can somebody Demo how to construct a two pulley timing belt drive with changeable Parametric settings. How to construct the pulley and the belt.

Here are examples for determining center distances

This is an ambitious project for someone new to CAD and FreeCAD in particular especially if you want it to be truly parametric. This is a similar example with what you are faced: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 04#p143004
There is a file you can download with a spreadsheet that you can probably modify for a timing belt. If you know the center distance then you will not have to iterate.

I would suggest you start with more basic tasks first, but if you want to attempt a timing belt then you need the following:

1. Center distance of the pulleys
2. Belt path dimensions and number of teeth
3. A working knowledge of the Part or PartDesign workbench, Sketcher, and the Draft workbench Path Array.
4. The FCGear workbench includes a timing pulley feature that you can probably modify for your application.
5. Spreadsheet workbench for all the calculations if 1 & 2 are unknown.
6. Familiarity with Expressions for the sketch dimensions, pulley and path array properties, etc.

So, as you can see it is not a simple project. If you want to create one specific configuration as a start then we can coach you through the process if you do your homework.

I have a trick to measure a length like this: I use the Arch workshop, mount a 0.1mm thick wall and it gives me the length of this wall
I don't know of any other tool to give this length
In the catalogs of sellers there is a formula for the calculation
For the drawing, you did not specify: a flat belt, a V-belt, a toothed belt

Clever indeed.

Thanks Helmut. I had completely forgotten this post. It is more applicable for Coljay than the one I referenced.

Part_CheckGeometry can give the length of a sketch.
