Combo view 2.0 issues

Post by mp77Bushnell »

Code: Select all

OS: Windows 10 Version 2009
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.20.29177 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-20
Hash: 68e337670e227889217652ddac593c93b5e8dc94
Python 3.8.10, Qt 5.15.2, Coin 4.0.1, Vtk 8.2.0, OCC 7.6.2
Locale: English/United States (en_US)
Installed mods:
  * A2plus 0.4.56a
  * dxf-library
  * Help 1.0.3
  * InventorLoader 1.3.0
  * sheetmetal 0.2.49
I looked elsewhere as suggested .. at least some elsewheres.
My combo view took a life of its own today. It took over the top of my work space
I've tried the suggestion for previous versions.
Should we be making a "archival copy of config files... just in case we need them?
I guess I could just delete 20 and then reinstall... seems a bit extreme.
And note OTHER oddites in the SECOND screen capture SKEWED LINES also.
And When I open a file The sketch shows but not the normal combo box! Had to click on create sketch icon!
BTW

I tried to insert an image but see above...but seem to have issues there to so see attachments.

So what causes the issue of Combo view and is there a way to fix it in windows FC .20
(Tonight The gremlins are winning on MY machine. I surrender.)

Move the title line of the ComboView to the far left (until the screen split in a blue zone).

FreeCAD has the most cantankerous window placement problems I have ever encountered. I would guess that is a function of Qt.

The expanded Combo panel often has no controls in the upper-right corner such as full, minimize, close. There is no way to move it. The only way I have found to correct the situation referenced here is to close the panel completely (View >> Panels) and try again.

TRIED THAT. Did not fix issue.
Didn't fix problem in previous issues according to some who tried either.

I tried closing and reopening,
I tried closing the entire app and starting again.
It is beginning to sound like UNINSTALL and download aqnd install AGAIN.
Rinse and repeat in the future too. <g>

My thoughts go beyond "cantakerous."

Close FreeCAD, open regedit.exe and remove the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FreeCAD key then relaunch FreeCAD, this should reset your panel positions.

Re: Combo view 2.0 issues good and otherwise [solved]

Your suggestion of using regedit might have been just the solution..

I did a complete uninstall, downloaded the version again and reinstalled.
Amazingly, the problem persisted... so your regedit might be th3e best answer.

But when the error occurred again I decided to try the previous solutions of dragging the box. What I learned:
You've got to click on the box in the right location (on the box) and NOT drag it too high before releasing it.
This finally worked for me (maybe I lucked out) but an option to reset would nice for those of 7us who encountered the issue.

So... I've copied your suggestion to my notes.. next time it happens I'll try that.
Onward with my adventure.
Thanks to the folks who answered!
