From what I know, autoupdate is possible only on Ubuntu. But FreeCAD releases are not so frequent as to make autoupdating important.

You do not need to uninstall old versions to load a new version. I have 5 or 6 versions active, without any problems.

The only potential issue is that the default installation uses the same user configuration location for any version. Usually this will not cause any problems, but in some cases it is possible that you might want a different set of parameters for different FC versions. (I don't.)

It's not necessary to uninstall but you'll end up with two versions of FreeCAD installed, if you don't have a specific reason to keep 0.19 around you should just uninstall it, I suggest testing your most important files in 0.20 and if everything is fine uninstall 0.19 afterwards.
