minor nitpick: solid support is not the best choice of words here because it can be interpreted as referring to solid geometry, I would say stable support instead

Re: Sketches get moved to another plane
Yes, a STABLE support and not from the solid.

Re: Sketches get moved to another plane
All,
Thank you for all the help. Here is a summary of what I have learned and the changes I made as a result of your help.
All the other calculations are done automatically in the Spreadsheet.
I have renamed the parts and sketches to make it easier to see what I did.
I have attached the file for your enjoyment.
Tom
Thank you for all the help. Here is a summary of what I have learned and the changes I made as a result of your help.
- Attach sketches to the part reference planes or Datum Planes, not to faces.
- Instead of starting with an Involute Gear, start with a Part, then a Body, then an Involute Gear
- Instead of adding fillets to edges, use the recommendation in this post: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?p=383329 and build them into the sketch.
All the other calculations are done automatically in the Spreadsheet.
I have renamed the parts and sketches to make it easier to see what I did.
I have attached the file for your enjoyment.

Well done it's good to see people getting the hang of things......
Re: Sketches get moved to another plane
Small correction: If a Part contains nothing but a single object, it is useless. You can just start with directly with the body.fr33cadtom wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 9:15 pm Instead of starting with an Involute Gear, start with a Part, then a Body, then an Involute Gear

Re: [SOLVED:] Sketches get moved to another plane
Looking at CrossBox-sketch:
- having less dimensions in favor of geometric constraints means less clutter on the screen and makes you often think more and better about the geometry.
- to center a rectangle I recommend to keep all horizontal and vertical constraints and add a single diagonal symmetry.
(You could even omit the construction rectangle completely, but using it could be sensible for the sake of clarity.)
