Using Additive Pipe on sections of a path?

Post by StarlessCaviar »

I'm trying to do like a partial or "section-ed" sweep to generate "teeth" on the bottom of this stage to help grab the base of this headphone stand, but instead of sweeping the entire path of the base and then pocketing to get the four tabs, I'm hoping to run an Additive Pipe on the for line sections. But it doesn't seem to work properly.

Any suggestions on how to do this in an elegant way?

Trying to sweep these "teeth" on the four lines here, but it only sweeps on one.

I know I can close the path and then do pockets to get the teeth, but it just seems like an inelegant solution:

PartDesign_AdditivePipe :
The cross-sections must not contain disjoint or crossing loops.
The path must a single line.

(but a loop then a cut is a logic method.)

BTW, you could draw the Sketch.tooth using the sketch origin THEN Map mode this sketch to the path.

* You should try not to use sketch upon face : TNP (Topological_naming_problem)
* Sketch016 is weird. Dimensions should be : 184, 189, 42.

you have 2 straight clips and 2 curves, you can (as you propose) make the whole crown and Pocket the 4 parts to remove (make one and multitransform)
or do 1/2 and Rotate

Thanks, I guess it's as I feared, but mapping to path origin will make it simpler.

Placing bits like this is nicely done with Latice2 workbench.

A video conveniently describes the process:

If this was mold work I would be thinking about what is the best approach to use if I later (5 years from now) need to move one of the latches 1mm and slightly modify the profile. So I would probably model 4 (1 sketch 1 pad) and place them explictly. It's not as fun as a sweep but easy to modify and latches always seem to be the "can we change that" item. :)

This seems to work only if all the latches are the same shape.

Technically, two of my latches should be curved, and the other two flat, but practically I can use flat latches for all four points to achieve my goals.

Thanks.

Hmm...just make two sets of latches.

Just to follow up. Here is an example of multiple latch types done with Lattice2:
