Unexpected Pad Result

Post by RussG »

OS: macOS 10.16
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.19.24366 (Git)
Build type: Release
Python version: 3.9.7
Qt version: 5.12.9
Coin version: 4.0.0
OCC version: 7.5.3
Locale: C/Default (C)

In Screen Shot 01 you will see the Sketch I drew. It has 4 lines and is fully constrained. In Screen Shot 02 you can see what happens when I try to Pad the Sketch. FreeCAD appears to pad a triangular section of the Sketch as opposed to the whole thing. I am at a loss to explain why only a trangular portion of the Sketch is Padded and not the whole thing. What don't I understand?

My FreeCAD file is also attached.

Thank you.

You have doubled edge 4 with edge 6 in that sketch.

Thanks for showing me the double lines! I don't see that at all in my sketch, but probably because I don't know how to look. How are those found?

Probably, because I can't really see that. The attached screenshot shows what I see in my Sketch when all the Constraints and Origin are hidden. No matter how I turn the Sketch in 3D space I only see one vertical line. How is somebody supposed to know there is more than one?

RussG, when problems arise you can look thru the Elements and Constraints list to check things, these are in the Combo view.

Edit: This check should be added the the Sketch validation tool.

So yes, I see that. Perhaps you can help me understand this better... I can see that if a sketch has but a few lines you can count them and see if you have the same number in the Line section of the Tasks window. Might that not be tedious if there are many lines? That's my first question.

Then, how were you able to tell that it was lines # 4 and #6 where the problem was? Was it simply a matter of mousing over lines in the list one by one to see which lines highlighted int the 3D View section and noticing that 4 and 6 were at the same location?

Thanks!
