Using Loft

Post by DrC »

I am trying to design a sheath for a pair of scissors to stop them poking a hole in my pocket. My design is an elliptical hollow cone but I'm having a lot of difficulty making it.

So I am starting with a solid ellitical cone and will 'subtract' a similar one once I have sorted out how to do it.

Half of the solid cone seems to be OK but the other half doesn't. What am I doing half wrong?

Thanks for any help - it's much appreciated.

A loft transforms one shape to another. It would appear the model represents a sweep of some sort.

A sweep takes as input a profile and a path. A triangle is not a suitable path.

I suggest you refer to the wiki.

Hi,
Would the following design be useful to you?

ellipse dimensions:
major: 6mm
minor: 3mm
distance from origin: 120 mm

thickness: 2mm

if you want, you can change all the dimensions according to your wishes

I found this video very helpful on explaining lofts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP5dCB6FDpo
Maybe you already know how to use it.
