Pocket command fails

Post by Vagulus »

Today's project was going fine until

my second 'Pocket' command (Sketch003) failed. The next one (Sketch004) failed too.
I have redrawn both of these with no change in outcome. Both sketches are fully constrained.
Sketch002 in 'End Relief' worked perfectly. I know of nothing that's different - nothing that would stop the 'Pocket working.

What have I fouled up?

Thanks

Hi Vagulus,

What version of freecad are you using? It is requested that you copy that data before posting query .

I just downloaded you file and it is working for me to pocket using Sketch003. In ver 0.19
Have you checked that is working in the correct direction? Ie you may need to select the option for reverse in the pocket.

If a PartDesign feature or Part boolean doesn't work, use Part->CheckGeometry on the things it is based on. Thickness is a picky operation and it shows errors as Bance pointed out.
Nevertheless it works here, but I would not really rely on a model showing errors.

I may add something concerning stability: You may have read that sketches should not be mapped to faces, so you created a DatumPlane. However, this doesn't help if the DatumPlane is mapped to a face.

What should I do then?

I thought I was confused before  but it's worse now.

I cannot find any Part->CheckGeometry function. I must be looking in the wrong place but I thought I have tried everywhere. Where is this functionality available?

Have a look at this page, especially the paragraph about creating stable models.

Part workbench->Menu->4th block->6th entry.

I select the Part Workbench but I can't find any Menu->4th block->6th entry. I'm afraid that I'll have to ask you to be very patient and post images of the buttons. I have tried all the buttons and drop-down menus and I can find nothing. It can't all be written off to my eyesight failing with age.

Remember that I am using

The interface is different from version 18. It has a bigger cross-hair cursor (which is great) but all the buttons at the top are greatly enlarged so you have to use the MORE arrows to get at many of them. Can the size of those be adjusted too?
