Post by LS120nz »

Hi and i must say sorry if this is all ready on the forum.. my Freecad first..

Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.18.16131 (Git)

OCC version: 7.3.0
Locale: English/New Zealand (en_NZ)

now my problem is.. i have a DXF or a pc case i want to adjust and setup to be 3D printed in the end.. more help needed later on this..

i have watched a lot of freecad video's on importing into freecad and must say i have amassed myself that i actually understand it and have done it...

what i would like to know is;
1 - does the dxf import as a 1:1 in to freecad??
2 - can i make seperate parts to use in drawings later to make 3d parts.
3 - i maybe asking too much lol (i was wondering what to do with circles... oh just group and add to the sketch lol

i want to design a case and use stand offs for the board.. it's going to be in two parts and screw together.. but i digress... sorry if anyone wants to hold my hand and help me please contact me.. i am building the board as i type but a few weeks away yet..

any help much appreciated..

#1: FC assumes that the drawing units in the DXF/DWG are milimeters. In your case they are probably inches. So you need to enter the correct scale (25.4) when you import.

#2: Sure. You can use the same sketch multiple times. Or link new sketches to existing sketches (Sketcher_External).

thanks roy.. i checked qcad and it was a setting in the save area even though it was set to mm for the drawing in save it was doing some thing with inch's.. so got that sorted now..

the next thing i have is locking the sketch so i can extrude it.. then work out putting the 3 sketches on to the sides and extruding them..

thanks for the help

ok new question.. im wanting to use part of the import.. say the base.. do i make separate sketches for what i want to extrude and remove.

like a base extrude, cut pocket.. sketch keyboard cut outs and cut out the sketch screw mounts and extrude them?? im new to all this and just need some guidance here.. have watched a few videos but do not have this type of work flow.. and that they were in german/english ... i was falling asleep abit with the mono tone....

thanks to anyone whom wants to help me out..

thanks that's a good start as for me.. i haven't got that far yet lol..still fighting to get it all green... i imported all the dxf and made sketches of the units as i need them.. like top, base, front and back with each one they were made into multi sketches and i then combined them into 1 sketch for each area. is that right???

now if so what do i do from there as i cant seem to do anything with them.. i can up load the sketches i have at the moment if you want to see what i have done..

The sketches need to be constrained, at the moment it's just a bunch of un-connected lines.
