Getting started with robots

Post by antenore »

Hi all,

First of all thank you very much for FreeCAD.

I'm really new to the CAD world, I've just some experiences with old school ray tracing and old school pencil designing.

I need to design a prototype of a small robot and to do this I'm designing piece by piece each component and saving them on different files.
At this point I was thinking to copy&paste each component, in a new document that will be the robot prototype.

Is this the right way to proceed? Is there a better way to create a library?

When I paste a component in a new document, all the names are duplicates with an incremental number, am I doing something wrong?

Thank you very much
Best regards

Its not necessary to use more then one document. You can keep more then one Part in a document.

The name of the parts you can easily change, just rename them.

Later on you can export each different part e.g. to a STEP file.
Stop whining - start coding!
