Problem of scale of inteface (on all workshops)

Post by Almisuifre »

Good evening,
Since the last version, I have a problem with some parts of the interface.

On Windows 10, I increased the overall scale by 150% because I am on a 4K screen.

Until now, FreeCAD has followed this directive. It seems that this is not the case with the latest version (to be confirmed).

In any case, I suggest that a scale button be inserted just above the size of the icons and that would take the hand cleverly.

In the meantime, it is difficult to work in these conditions on a decent screen.

Thank you for your help, your corrections to improve our software.

Cdt,
Almi

Hello, I am struggling with a similar issue with scaling on windows 10. I have the overall scale in 125 %, resolution 1920x1080 , screen 15,6" (laptop).

You can see Known OS specific Issues

If not sucess you can try:
- Create enviroment variable QT_SCALE_FACTOR to 1.5
- Create enviroment variable QT_FONT_DPI to 96
- Reboot Windows and start Freecad
I did it and although they did not solve my problem, they do modify the scale and the elements gui size of FreeCAD, so maybe they will help you.
I tried it when I saw this topic.
good luck!

Okay to move...
However, I should not touch QT. Especially since it is the installed version that is provided from the installation links.

Done. Would "Install" subforum be even more appropriate?

Thanks for moving into the right nforum. ;)

I just tried this to figure out where the problem was.

1/ Certainly following a recent update of windows 10
2/ I also updated the graphics card driver

So, if I put my 4K screen on 100%, the text areas that are no longer affected by the Windows scale, remain at the same scale.

I deduce that QT, or the current version of FreeCAD, or Windows, or the driver does not do the right thing.

I take a look at the hardware configuration to make sure that it is a repairable problem and that we know one day to fix it.

Windows 10 Pro
21h2 of 18/08/2020
System Build 19044.1889
Experiment 120.2212.4180.0

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Card
Pilot 516.93 DCH

You can try to reset the configuration with the button in the preferences. Another possibility is to delete your config files or to move them in case you want to restore them.

You may also have to clean the Windows registry from all FreeCAD and Qt stuff.

Also, you can try to create in the parameter editor the variable "DisableDpiScaling" and set in "true", in BaseApp/Preferences/HighDPI. Source.
It worked to me.

That’s the first thing I did.

What I don’t understand is that after insisting on setting the 150%, it ended up back to normal for FreeCAD.

But, where I draw your attention, it would still be a good thing that we are a "scale interface" button allowing to bypass the risky configurations of Windows or operating systems.

But I suppose you understand me!
