Wassily designer chair

Post by RudderDuck »

Second piece of designer furniture to get acquainted with FreeCAD modelling. This is an accurate model of the Wassily Chair, also known as the Model B3 chair, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925–1926 while he was the head of the cabinet-making workshop at the Bauhaus, in Dessau, Germany.

Workflow: Created sketches of front/side/top and cloned these as reference for sketches of the different parts. It still needs refinement. I tried using the assembly workbench but somehow that messed things up. I guess I'm doing something wrong in my workflow.

Renders made in Blender using simple chrome and plastic-ish material for the caps at the end of some tubes. Leather material is procedural, not perfect but good enough for a quick render of the final result.

Model is available at GrabCAD:

I noticed that the other models of this chair at GrabCAD are not geometrically correct. I used some original drawings found at the Archives of American Art (https://aaa.si.edu).
