XLR connector

Post by NewJoker »

Hi,

I followed this tutorial meant for Inventor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVJm9QLNHtY

and created the model presented here:

I used 0.20 (details below) and Link branch (just for the visualization).

Here are some notes:
- I really like the versatility of tools for coloring, especially the Pick Screen Color option
- I gave up on fillets for that middle section of the connector (they wouldn't improve the model's appearance significantly anyway)
- I had to mix Part Design and Part workbenches because of that complex cutout with triangular embossing - it was necessary to wrap the sketches on cylindrical faces and I used Part ProjectionOnSurface which worked really nice here
- when I tried to use PD workbench during the later steps of the modeling, the cutout disappeared and some glitches occurred so I sticked to Part wb for the remaining stages of the design

I attached the file below. I will be grateful for any tips on how this could be modeled in a better way.

Do not sketch upon face : TNP (same for DatumPlane).
I don't understand everything of your file.

Yeah, I know. I just assume no need for modifications in my simple models. Hopefully, this approach will be valid in the next version.

Well, that cutout required some workarounds and that's what caused the mess in the model tree. There are boolean operations, projected faces and so on.

I didn't want to do the whole connector but here is the PartDesign metal part. I kind of threw it together but it lets you see the pad/pocket process. Using Refine cleans up the feature lines.

Thanks, that's also interesting way to realize this cutout.
