[ Architecture Masterpiece ] Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
The idea is to model with the FreeCAD 0.19 Arch Workbench the famous Farnsworth' House designed by Mies van der Rohe. (1946 - 1951)

I am only using technical documentation from open access sources. I noticed that is very difficult to find accurate information freely opened. That is the reason to recreate this house, making a file with valuable details accessible to everyone.
The goal is to model the house totally with FreeCAD, using the tools from Arch Workbench and to get a model as accurate as possible (steel components, connectors, etc).
These images of this post show the current development level of the model. Only the structure. The next post will show the finish result.

Re: Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
Good to have more people modeling Famous Buildings
Can't wait to see the complete model.
Maybe professionals from other disciplines (Arch, Structurual, MEP / Building Services etc.) can collaborate on Github ? or a BimServer ?

Re: Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
That's a little over an hour from where I live, just east of one of one of my favorite towns because of it's name: Sandwich, Illinois.
Admittedly, I had always thought this was a Frank Lloyd Wright structure - "prairie style" and all. Both architects have a pretty big presence in this area...
Anyway, the Wikipedia article is an interesting read - apparently there's a film coming out about it.

I love this
You can start a series: Famous structures Open Sourced through FreeCADbitacovir wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 1:52 am The goal is to model the house totally with FreeCAD, using the tools from Arch Workbench and to get a model as accurate as possible (steel components, connectors, etc).

The Files of this model can be found here...
https://github.com/bitacovir/Farnsworth-House-3D
The model is not complete and refined, yet. But you can download it. Currently I am working on the core of the house.
The main reason to make this model was to test FreeCAD 0.19 with a workflow of a complex architecture model, and report the bugs.

Re: Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
As a short statement of the Performance of FreeCAD 0.19 with a complex architecture model I can say...
1) Strong Stability. No crashes, even with errors messages or bugs, the software kept running.
2) Fluid visualisation and manipulation of the 3D model. Even with so many elements, you can move, rotate the model with no lags.
3) Efficient implementation of tools. Once you have a acceptable compression of the tools, you can have a good benefit of each workbench, with no clashes between actions or find yourself in a end road. The tools and command are comprehensible and intuitive in many cases, but it was frequently necessary to consult the wiki to know how a specific command works. I discover that the wiki is very important in a workflow. We should consider to implement a way to connect with the wiki to assist in the use of the FreeCAD tools.
4) We need for more Architecture Tutorials about recommended workflows of modelling. This way, users can get the full value of FreeCAD as BIM tool, and to extend they integration with other IFC software, ( I have not tested this integration with BlenderBIM through IFC format, yet).

Re: Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
For those who have not opened the model to have a look at the model, I am surprised to see so many details had been modelled in the filebitacovir wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 2:26 pmAs a short statement of the Performance of FreeCAD 0.19 with a complex architecture model I can say...

Wonder if you can post your workflow here ?
And always wonder if and how Flamingo / Dodo WB help in your model workflow.
Thanks.
Re: Farnsworth's House FreeCAD model
I only used internal WB (arch, part, part design, etc). No external workbenches were used.
