bim ifc is not intended as a data exchange format for further processing of drawings. the ifc file should not be changed similarly to pdf. it serves e.g. as a reference for connection structures. e.g. construction of a heating system in an ifc building model
Well, as there was no immediate response to this statement, it seems that this matter should be better discussed.
IFC does not necessarily need to be used only as a reference file or just an output file such as a PDF. This would be a tremendous limitation on the use and application of IFC in BIM. One of its goals is to enable interoperability between programs and disciplines within the BIM philosophy, in all its phases, including preparatory ones.
We could cite numerous cases of file exchanges between programs and disciplines before establishing the BIM, a subject exposed in figures 1 and 9 of the post (
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=59192). What better way to exchange parametric files between different programs than using IFC? Either between different and similar disciplines, or even the option of using different programs for the same file/discipline, using the best resources that each one offers (example: FC and Blender).
In addition, it is worth noting that not all BIM platforms work exclusively with IFC, but of course, as also exposed in the aforementioned post, once a discipline completes a project stage and sends its file (IFC or other) to the BIM model, from then on, it is appropriate that this file is not altered by anyone other than the author. There is a lot of ways to do this, not necessarily only with IFC files.
