i will try it, thank you.

i found this:

Geomatic WB has been discontinued instead it's been merged back in to Trails workbench. Yes, QGIS is also an option.

How to handle the wall-panels?
As a complete "ifc-modul" with wood-frame, insulation, cladding?
How to model the insulation? Like the architect-drawings or as a simple cube?
I dont like the position of beam 4, the force must walk a curve, excentric loading
of the wall frames. I wonder how they fixed this at the construction-site.

i suggest we take the 2d-drawings as inspiration. The experts here in the forum create the frameworks based on their experience.

It seems from the picture
- the vertical wooden frame / posts are continuous from bottom up to roof edge
- i.e. not divided into 2 and interrupted at the horizontal wooden beam in concern
- and the wooden beam, is just like the architect's drawing, fixed on the edge of the posts / frame, to support the floor panel

I think it depends on use case.

1. If the goal is 3D visualization of finishes, a single simple wall may be enough

2. If the goal is to produce 2D drawings, it should be some kind of multimaterial wall.

3. If the goal is FEM analysis, model each thing separately.

4. If the goal is to produce BOM, you probably need a more detailed model, with screws estimation, plastering, etc

Maybe all 4 are required

I agree that having the perfect model that suits every usecase can be something impossible to achieve.
Anyway - edit: if your goal is a quite good contruction model, but you want to keep some easy editing capabilities - you could also try the new experimental arch wall of the bim wb, and use it's basegeometry properties to substitute it's base shape with the accurate designed sub-components. It allows you to build the wall as a mechanical assembly, and automatically performs boolean operations on it (let's say to place windows and other components in it). Exporting in IFC is still rough but should output a correct BREP. I can try to make a small video out of it when I have a little freetime.

even if the house was not completely finished, it could be shown that freecad is able to take part in a bim process on the geometry level.

thank you all for your cooperation.

I notice the thread is very long and the information is very spread out. Would it be udeful perhaps to collect information on the OSArch wiki where we are trying do document just this type of workflow? I'd be happy to practice FreeCAD by working on a small aspect of the project (the stove? mezanine railing) if I have the other files organized and easy to find. Has anyone put them all somewhere?

I hope it's okay that I haven't read the whole discussion.

I made a dead wiki-link from this page which can be used. Maybe just a quick description of the FreeCAD project & the decisions made would be great https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title ... w_Examples
