Re: wiki housekeeping
Also sometimes red links are create deliberately. See f.e. Tree_view.
Re: wiki housekeeping
I was just about to whine about this as I took to updating the translations of this site.
some links are invalid, e.g. to an expression page that exists under a different address.

Re: wiki housekeeping
up to 5 links is 10k pages
Re: wiki housekeeping
The 2-link examples I have checked do not fall in that category. See f.e.:
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?t ... ffset=7000
Most appear to be valid pages with missing translations.
A lot is the result of how translations are handled.
Example:
There are two links to Draft_Arc/pt:
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Special:Wha ... aft_Arc/pt
Both are caused by the same navi included on the listed 2 pages (a 1% and a 2% translation).
And of course all other Draft command reference pages have 2 /pt links for the same reason.
This alone results in 89 wanted pages.
BTW: How do you create those bar diagrams?
Re: wiki housekeeping
... In the case of Draft_Tools_navi:
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Template:Draft_Tools_navi
Most (19) of the 'translated' versions of this navi actually redirect to the main navi (which contains translatable links). Just by making them non-translatable you would probably reduce the number of wanted pages by about 1700 (19*89).

Re: wiki housekeeping
well, the intention is to find a way to
a) hunt down the typos and link-rots
b) spread that task
c) possibly put some fire in the pants of persons that speak the not so well maintained languages
not so much debating the fact that there are missing translations and that this is showing up in number of red-links.
a small script to scrape, and python to plot from this csv, pandas makes those plots as one-liners.

Re: wiki housekeeping
What may work is checking your list against the pages that are in translation:
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Special:PageTranslation
https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Special:PageTranslation
Re: wiki housekeeping
Removing the missing translations from the list results in a vast reduction. Ca. 2650 then remain. I have already fixed ca. 50. There can be various causes for the remaining red links.
- Typo.
- Miss-translation: f.e. Image: -> Bild:.
- An English page has to be marked for translation. Or the language suffix has to be removed from the red link.
- A missing redirect. A redirect was created for the English page only. In such a case maybe all links should checked so that redirected links are avoided?
- The red link is part of a translation unit that is no longer used.
- The red link is deliberate.

Re: wiki housekeeping
indeed, it is a detective work to untangle it as well - thus the aim of some sort of automated "identification" of prospects to be investigated, which could be updated say once in a while and people could just go there to pick one and see what they could do about it.
since the wiki is in a continuous state of change one would expect that it is a never ending effort to keep it somewhat at bay.
so, does it deserve a wiki-page with some basic instructions and a list (can be downloadable) of prospects?
Re: wiki housekeeping
cudos to roy for what clearly is a solo-streak on upgrading the template base on all pages.
cannot say that I fully grasp what is going on, so just standing at the sidelines and noticing that most metrics on linking is improving by the hour.
do let us know when your crusade is finished
other topic:
when one clicks Documentation on freecadweb.org the wiki page is Getting_started which looks rather dull.
so thought one could add a bit of colour to that one by adding the splash-screen at the top.
if no objections, I could do that.
when looking for the splash-screen for v0.19, I did not find any on the wiki, so suppose it has to be uploaded there.
furthermore, the Artwork template appears to do something fishy.
examples below maybe that is an easy fix for a wiki-veteran - I spent a little bit of time looking at it, but did not see any obvious reason for the category link to not be rendered.
