If there is the possibility to show a timer in the animated gifs, please use it! In the gif Kunda1 has attached it is no problem to see where it starts, but often, e.g. when selecting points in a certain sequence it helps to see where the motion starts.

Here is an example with a selfmade timer. It's an advantage of the linux systems that the active window doesn't have to be on top.
Another possibility to make clear where it starts is a recording pause at the beginning or the end.

Edit: added the link (it's almost like announcing an email attachment ...)
