I noticed that users cannot measure from FreeCAD's Origin, nor can we measure from the middle of a straight edge, so I added two features.
1: A button that inserts a vertex at the Origin, press the button again and the vertex is removed.
2: Select a straight edge, press "Mid Line" and a vertex is added to the mid-point if an edge. Multiple vertexes can be added, pressing the "Del Mid Lines" button will remove them all.
You can use these vertexes for your measurements.

I'm not sure what is it is. I just downloaded the latest FreeCAD but my system seems fine.
Is anyone else having problems?

I have had another look at this - the problem only appears if the style sheet is changed - could you try darker blue and light green on your system maybe.
