I have an idea of what might have mucked things up. I'll have a good look at it in the morning.

You messed it up. The numbered extensions are backup files created on every saving. So you somehow have deleted your FreeCAD file and now you have reset it to a previously saved state.

What do you mean? *.FCStd1 files are no backup files on your system?

No. I meant that I had not deleted my *.FCStd files.

I wish you thread title specified which assembly workbench you are talking about.... :roll:
I am using Link branch and Assembly3
