Trace other part in sketch assembly3

Post by DaAwesomeP »

Hello!

If this is the wrong place to get help with Assembly3, please let me know so that I may move my post.

I have a main part and two imported stepper motors shown below:

I want to trace the mounting holes (the holes in the flanges sticking out) onto a sketch in the part behind them. I tried both the ShapeBinder method and adding an externally-referenced line to the sketch, but it says that I can't because it is in another object/file. These don't need to be (and really shouldn't) be permanently linked to the steppers, so any possible method would work here.

I will eventually use these in Assembly3 to more solidly constrain the steppers to the part (and also physically with screws).

Thanks!

One way of doing it is to use the green SubShapeBinder. You can consult my tutorial here. There are probably easier ways depending on your assembly structure. Maybe you can post your files here so that it will be easier to describe the steps.
Try Assembly3 with my custom build of FreeCAD at here.
