custom cross section for beam FEM

Post by mwlandolsi »

Hello all,
I want to create a 3d structure, but I need to calculate the deformation with different sections than that are available ( ImageRectangular, circular, pipe). I need a Rectangular pipe. Is there a way to define a custom section beam?

CalculiX supports it but FreeCAD doesn't at the moment. You would have to edit the input file manually. Details are described in this thread: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=60808

There's an exemplary input file userbeam.inp in CalculiX test examples package if you need some reference in addition to the ccx documentation. Just be careful since you may encounter some bugs with this type of beam element. Two of them were reported on the CalculiX forum, one was fixed in ccx 2.18 but the other one still persists (it shouldn't be present in the next version though).
