FEM: Result node Numbers are not equal to FEM Mesh NodeCount.

Post by Mysharona »

I've built this trailer and I am experiencing some issues when I bring it to the FEM work bench. Any Suggestions would be great, Thanks!

This mesh is way too coarse. Also, try with Netgen instead of Gmsh.

How can I make my mesh more Fine?

First of all, use Part Compound instead of Part Union. It seems that the latter produces somewhat invalid geometry in this case.

Then, if you want to use Gmsh, set the max element size to 80 mm and min element size to 40 mm. This should be sufficient for a start. Then you will likely have to further refine the mesh but you should start from a bit coarser one to make sure that the analysis is working correctly.

I have gotten it to work thank you, but Part Compound breaks in the FEM work Bench for me.

Can you share the file with this failed analysis ?

Try in 0.20 - it's a new stable version and many bugs were fixed (including those in FEM workbench).

I have updated the link. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmYON7Y7WUFEnHD10LP ... Q?e=Fxeb4m , This is the updated one. I have used similar settings to what you suggested. Thank you for your time.

I have an error code Warning : Setting number of threads to 8 requires OpenMP when I use Gmesh, but when I use NetMesh I usually get a result of no volume. A .20 Version of the File with a FEM analysis with Gmesh.

Apparently, the beams are not correctly connected to the rest of the trailer and that's what causes issues with results. The question is why it happens. It can be a fault of the Part Compound tool or imprecise geometry (e.g. small gaps). Both Gmsh and Netgen produce such a disconnected mesh so it's not a fault of the mesher. Basically, what you need to figure out is what to do to make the exported step or inp file (that's a good test) contain a single part instead of multiple disconnected regions.

I think that I will ask on the main forum, maybe someone will know what to do with this geometry since it's not an issue with FEM analysis itself.

So should I put in "welds" to fill in gaps?
