If you are aware of some gaps between the parts, it might be necessary to close them in the model. Otherwise, you would have to connect the parts with tie constraints but it can be difficult since after making the union/compound shape you can't normally hide components and select the proper faces for connection.

I have it working now. In doing so I think, although I don't know, that Part Compound, Fusion, and boolean, along with A2+ have problems with topological naming issues. More so the specific constraints.
