Feature Request: Sketch fillet

Post by anno15 »

Hello,

I think a nice feature in sketch workbench would be to draw a "straight fillet" (sorry I don't know the right expression) in addition to the rounded fillet. It is shown in the top left corner.

Really, is drawing a line that much work? Never needed since using CAD.

It's called a chamfer, and there are already discussions about this topic.

The fillet automatically sets two tangent constraints, what benefit would a chamfer achieve in Sketcher?

I'm not sure this would really be of any benefit.

Not having to manually trim and draw lines whenever adding a chamfer ?

this discussion is going the same place as the previous, bunch of people don't care about having it, some unreasonably oppose to it, a bunch of us thinks it's a nice addition but very low priority, a few can't live without it... this doesn't need any further discussion IMO, it's time for a PR or nothing.

my from memory summary of the previous discussion:
• pros: easy chamfers in a sketch (toponaming safe), no need to use trim, potentially preserving constraints as with fillets

• cons: one more icon polluting the toolbar (negated by putting it in a dropdown), more code to be maintained (a glass of water in the sea IMO)

I would guess that the bulk of the necessary work was done with the creation of the new fillet capability. Such as preserving the location of the previous corner.

I may or may not ever use this chamfer, but it seems pretty straightforward to add.
