When snapping it pays to have just the minimum required options turned on, try switching a few off.

As drmacro says it is personal preference, however it shouldn't be proffered to new users unless the alternative is also. Personally a leaner tree, and not having to constantly hide/show DP's suits a faster workflow IMO. New users can and will, also change Placement/ attachment offset from the DP cr...

It is the case in PD WB that a change persists per session, there are only two pull down options and they are the ones mentioned by the OP (Primitive Add/Sub.)

You should attach the date of your version if you use FC daily on Linux, it can be found in the help about dialogue.

Make yourself a custom object, look at the wiki/tutorials. To expand a little, you may need to make handles as Arch equipment and add them to the window/door. That's about as much as I can help with Arch, perhaps someone else could jump in. Traditionally this type of hardware is treated in schedules.
