Re: BIM WB: shapes very distant from the origin, in the imported DXF file
Indeed that problem happens quite often... I think the best way here would be a kind of "relocate to center" tool. This could be a macro. It could do something like this: - Get the selected objects - Add the bounding boxes to make one big bounding box - Get the center of that bounding box ...

Re: Version Control Support in FreeCAD
Another thing that is IMHO very important, the main motivation for cloud services, specially those attached to a CAD application, is basically to make your files hostage so you keep paying the subscription forever. You stop paying, you loose your work. The "there is no file any more" conce...

Re: GSoC 2024 mentoring orgs announced
And once again, at this point, we need two things: 1) People wanting to be mentors . Mentoring is not hard, it does not require big technical skills, but it requires dedication. You should be ready to spend around 2 or 3h/week with your student, possibly with some video meetings. Projects can run fo...

Not sure yet of what I'll be able to do in august, but in principle I'm interested, by any of these locations

GSoC 2024 - Open for proposals
GSoC 2024 is around the corner! Applications are now open for orgs, and we are applying. I'm starting a https://wiki.freecad.org/index.php?title=Google_Summer_of_Code_2024 wiki page for it. Feel free to edit and add your ideas! This is also a call for mentors. If you are interested in mentoring a GS...

Re: The design group
I said the forum CAN BE toxic. Not that it always was or that it does not have totally nice people and discussions too. Both can be true at the same time. Sorry if anyone felt directly criticized, it's just how I sometimes feel myself there, and many others say so too. And I'm as much a culprit as a...

Re: The design group
Yes you're right. And indeed I understand of course that changes sometimes irritate existing users, and that sometimes it's unavoidable, if it's for the greater good. Just that I think we should always keep caring for existing users. Some people have put a tremendous amount of work here, they also d...

Re: Crash in 0.22 when importing ifc
Oh that's weird... python3-lark is the correct one and it appears to be correctly installed. What happens when you type import lark in FreeCAD's python console?

Re: Create empty wall opening
Yes, but note that just anything can be used to create an opening in a wall. You can create a sketch, extrude it (with Part Extrude or for ex. Arch Structure ), then use that object as a subtraction (use the Arch Remove tool). So the functionality actually exists already. In IFC terms, also, an open...

Re: Donations tax-deductable
If it's the same as in Belgium, you cannot pretend to a tax reduction just by donating to anyone. It must be a "charity" org, and the charity status is something only given to a very defined list of org types like hospitals, philantropic NGOs, etc, which we are not. And to pretend to tax r...
