Option to selectively freeze geometry to limit scope of re-compute and overhead

Just saw this, which made me think: ... I don't seem to be able to find where to turn off automatic updates ...(snip) I'm not yet at a point where I encounter the issue and would be frustrated by having to wait for those updates, but does such a thing as a user-specified option to "freeze"...

Re: CNC Machine with built in radius compensation

I believe JanneK and thomas-huber are looking for a PATH "mode" switch , which will generate the cutter- contact path as output, instead of cutter- center path as output, for gcode generation. Conceptually, without having seen source-code, I can visualize that the "edge/contact" ...

Re: Spaceballs and Joysticks

Hi SammysHP, Not necessarily. I've got a 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator for ... (snip). My brother gave me a 3dconnexion SpaceNavigator that looks untouched (transparent protective layer still stuck on the bottom chrome rim. Were you able to get that to work on Linux? I'm on UbuntuMATE. 20.04 for now. M...

Re: Folder Structure for Macros?

Hi Chris, I just realized that the precedence order I proposed needed a tweak. It should have been MacroPATH = "${FreeCAD_HOME}/MACROS__Test:\ ${FreeCAD_HOME}/MACROS__User:\ ${FreeCAD_HOME}/MACROS__Installed:\ ${FreeCAD_HOME}/MACROS__System" since you want test versions to come up before p...

Re: Discussion: Using the 'New' Staging wiki at wiki.freecad.org

Hi Kunda, Not sure if I got your meaning correctly, but did you intend to suggest that all pages on the Wiki would be translated into a specified subset of languages, based on audience/contributors , and trying to rationalize which pages are then logically reported in search results? I don't know if...

Search results not as expected - 5-axis or substrings

I can't do anything with this because my programming knowledge doesn't cover this area of coding. I also need to ramp up on GitHub before I can think of trying to ocntribute to the FreeCAD code in areas for which I am knowledgeable. So, as feedback, I don't see the issue identified in my subject lin...

Re: CNC STEP file type

You can hire someone ... I am aware of all you have said. I have no disagreemen t with anything you said. I was simply pointing out, from experience, that people need to think it thru. Just as a point of clarification ... I looked a the URL reference that you provided. I believe I have reviewed tha...

Re: CNC STEP file type

At least you can always install an older Freecad version. You could even write your own update script to update files to newer versions. This issue is kinda of a big deal if you actually use those expensive big corp CAD packages, but just a minor issue if you have access to all the data you need to...

Re: CNC STEP file type

Off topic but if I may ask, which format would you recommend for CNC? STEP or IGES? When dealing with an outside shop to build your parts, you first need to decide which shop is best suited for the task (data-compatibility, quality, speed, turnaround-time, price). Only then ... do you ask that shop...
