Maybe your light source is oriented fully on the Z axis ? You can tweak it in Preferences -> Display -> Light Sources. that is the culprit @easyw-fc maybe it has something to do with the latest material appearance changes? maxwxyz @maxwxyz adjusted the default material appearance to better display ...

what about realthunder releases?
Have you tried those?
Are they also slower?

If not that means that realthunder had implemented TNP in a more valuable way...
EDIT:
In my previously tests @realthunder FC release was faster than FC main branch...
