I agree with Roy. I see that it would sometimes be convenient if we think about a multiplied cube where the whole set fits within the specified distance. Alas, it becomes really difficult, if you have to consider all the ugly possibilities that can occur, starting with the center of the first object...

Or why not just use construction lines and leave the rest up to the users themselves? It would be a similar situation as we have now. It still needs the function to restore the internal geometry. No, Assembly is the new builtin assembly workbench. I'm not really familiar with either of them, but I would say, that the builtin is not yet on par with Assembly4. As Assembly is builtin, it may be the dominant workbench on the long run.
